Episode 29--Spring Sensations
Wednesday Mar 31, 2010
Wednesday Mar 31, 2010
Namaste, dear YOGIS.
Spring blessings to you! Today's class is 30 minutes in length. This is a level 2 class (basic knowledge of postures is implied in instruction) focusing our reconnection with Earth-energy during the glorious months of spring. We come back into our bodies during this time. Let's connect more deeply with the natural world around us. To that end, find your favorite animal or plant posture and practice it often outdoors! {To view photos & videos of today's class, click this link.} The music you hear in the background of today's class is by Deva Premal, who I had the great joy of experiencing live in concert last week. If you have the opportunity to hear Deva, Miten & Manose, you simply must-- they bring such love to the music. Introductory music is by Seruiqam via Podsafe Audio. Thank you, dears, for your sweet support of this podcast. Special thanks this week to Peggy, Jenny & the other lunchtime yogis who practice with them! I am so happy to be a part of your practice. A shout-out to Ms. Audrey who let me know she stepped into the world inversions this week and is now dancin' on the ceiling! I hope you share your yoga story with me too-- or just let me know you are listening.*Connect*

Episode 28--Spring Santosha
Thursday Mar 25, 2010
Thursday Mar 25, 2010
Blessings, dear yogis.
THANK you so so much for joining the Sunrose Yoga Sanga (community) and for sharing your practice with this podcast. Today's class was recorded live at Community Fitness, where I teach on Thursday nights and Monday afternoons. This class is an hour long and focuses on Santosha-- the yogic concept of contentment. We began our study of Santosha several episodes ago. Today we look at this niyama (observance) a bit more closely, and cultivate deep contentment within our practice, our SELVES, in order to share the love with others more readily. This seems particularly appropriate to me around the Spring Equinox--which is the new year in some parts of the year-- a time to reflect on our intentions for the year and move into the fullness of their expression. Thank you so much for your emails, tweets, comments and donations. We are now up to over 3,000 subscribers!! You are amazing, dears! Please get in touch with your yoga stories!
ALL LOVE,
Kelly

Episode 26-- Contentment
Saturday Mar 06, 2010
Saturday Mar 06, 2010
Namaste, dear yogis.
I hope you are enjoying every breath this week. Thank you so much for joining me for the Sunrose Yoga Podcast. In this episode, we begin to play with the concept of santosha (contentment), which is one of the niyamas (personal observances) described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
II:42 From an attitude of contentment (santosha), unexcelled happiness, mental comfort, joy, and satisfaction is obtained.
Please get in touch with your yoga stories!
ALL LOVE,
Kelly

Hello hello, dear yogis.
Thank you so much for joining me for Episode 25 of the Sunrose Yoga Podcast. Today’s episode features an hour-long, level 2 class exploring our relationship with resistance. I hope you love it.
*
You may have heard the expression that your nature isn't revealed by what happens to you, but how you respond. In today's class, we explore the idea of softening into resistance...in the hope of turning perceived obstacles into inspirations!
I’m adding two public classes to my schedule next week at a brand new studio—Yoon’s Yoga Bliss in North Seattle (15823 Westminster Way North-- near Paper Zone). In honor of the grand opening, I’ll be teaching a free 90 minute class Friday night at 5:45pm—come join me!

Thank you Karyn for your kind words about the podcast. I appreciate your energy!

All of you, thanks for your emails, comments on the blog, and donations. If you have a minute, please review me in iTunes!! I love it!

Episode 22-- Presenting...SHIVA!
Thursday Feb 04, 2010
Thursday Feb 04, 2010
Blessings of peace and love, dear ones. Today's episode is a full-length, live class focusing on Shiva. Forget what you think you may know about Shiva and let consciousness destroy what stands between you and LIBERATION! For the next few classes, I will weave stories and meditations about this venerable figure into our asana practice. My favorite Shiva stories will begin to pop up in classes in the next few weeks. For more on Shiva, I recommend Nothing Exists That Is Not Shiva (a compilation & commentaries on the Guru Gitta, Shiva Sutras & Vijnana Bhairava) and for more stories, I LOVE Ganesha Goes to Lunch. Music in this class is Ganesh Mantra by Kedar Pandit & Sanjeev Abhyankar. Intro music was made possible my Mevio's Music Alley and is by Al Phillip & the Woo Team. Blessings of LOVE + transformation. Episode 15-- Open your Heart to JOY!
Tuesday Dec 08, 2009
Tuesday Dec 08, 2009
Namaste dear ones! Thank you so much for sharing your time with the Sunrose Yoga Podcast. I am so grateful for you and your support. This week's class focuses on the ultimate heart opening postures: back-bends. This class is the first in a two part series on back bends. Today's class emphasizes the anatomical subtleties of these postures, culminating in urdhva dhanurasana, while next week's class will turn to the energetic properties of the same postures. Backbending postures require strength in the quadriceps, shoulders and core. To create space in the low back (instead of compression), we draw the tailbone toward earth, while widening our pelvic bowl (spreading the outer thighs and sitting bones). Lift the heart, while relaxing the shoulders. Fill your heart with JOY in the postures! With love & gratitude, Kelly Please connect with me: email: sunroseyoga {at} gmail {dot} com phone: (503) 583-5299 twitter: @yoginiinthehood Thank you thank you! Leslie, for the sweet review in iTunes! Amy for your donation! Listeners, please visit The Prana Mama, a donor to this podcast. The postures: Easy seat, anjali mudra. Bhaktasana (devotional pose). Adho mukha svanasana (downward-facing dog) to three-legged dog. Deep lunge. Ardha uttanasana- uttanasana (1/2 lifts). Anjaneyasana (crescent pose). Plank. Sphynx. Bhujangasana (cobra). Adho Mukha Svanasana. Utthita Parsvakonasana (extended lateral angle). Virabhadrasana i with garuda arms (warrior i with eagle arms). Natarajasana (dancing Shiva). Dhanurasana (bow). Eka pada kapotasana (pigeon i, ii). Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (bridge). Urdhva dhanurasana (upward bow). **Tip: if you are fearful about upward bow, begin by backbending over an exercise ball (photos to follow). Happy baby. Savasana (pose of rest). OM! Shanti!
